Warhammer 40,000: Core Rulebook.

The galaxy writhes in the grip of all-consuming war. The Imperium teeters on the brink of annihilation, beset by heretic warlords, demon-wielding witches, and alien empires. The Great Rift cleaves through the void, a gaping wound that cuts through the heart of the Emperor's realm and bleeds madness and mutations into everything.

In every star system and on every planet, the battle rages with greater ferocity than ever before, as loyalists, heretics, and aliens tear reality itself apart in their war for dominance. Each day, the flames grow higher - this is an era more terrible than ever, for there is no peace among the stars...

Warhammer 40k Core Rulebook (10th Edition)

This 280-page hardcover book is an essential guide to Warhammer 40,000, containing everything you need to know to collect, assemble, paint, and play with Citadel miniatures in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium.

You'll find an overview of the Warhammer 40,000 hobby in all its aspects, basic rules for waging battles ranging from small skirmishes to massive Conquest matches, and an in-depth introduction to this rich and ruinous setting through detailed background, stunning illustrations and photographs, and an evocative look at each of the factions waging war in the far future.

The Warhammer 40,000 Hobby

The book begins with an introduction to this incredible hobby through its four key pillars: collecting, assembling, painting, and playing. You'll discover how to start your collection of Citadel miniatures, learn how people assemble and paint their miniatures, and get recommendations for tools and guides that will help you further. You'll also embark on your journey as a commander with a look at how, where, and why players engage in dynamic battles of Warhammer 40,000 on the tabletop, an example Battle Report between two armies, and an explanation of different play styles: Patrols, Chapter Approved competitive matches, and Crusade narrative campaigns.

Dark Imperium

This extensive section provides a gateway into the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium. It is a far future dominated by an oppressive and corrupt human empire, its crumbling borders defended by damned heroes, threatened from both outside and within, its history marked by ignorance and carnage, and the laughter of thirsty gods.

The first part of this guide explores the decaying Imperium and the galaxy it resides in: the long-dead God-Emperor eternally seated upon his Golden Throne, the High Lords and Adeptus bureaucrats who rule in his name, the zealous Ecclesiarchy preaching Imperial faith, the shadowy Inquisition Ordo that sees all, and the posthuman Space Marines waging battles no other could endure. You'll also discover the hellish dimension known as the Warp, fueling psychic mutation and interstellar travel, the mad Chaos Gods ruling its infinite depths, the blasphemous cults serving them, and the Great Rift tearing apart real space.

There is also a double-page galactic map, highlighting vital planets, systems, war zones, and Warp storms.

The second half delves into the history of the setting, from its myth-shrouded past to the apocalyptic clashes of its present. You'll find a chronology of Humanity's development through the Ages of Terra and Technology, the Ages of Strife and Darkness, until the Age of the Imperium. You'll explore the superstitions that fueled the cult of the Imperium's lost technology and its fearsome hatred of aliens and mutants, the Great Crusade with which the Emperor sought to unite humanity, the Horus Heresy that set the galaxy ablaze, and the millennia of war and losses that shaped the Imperium.

Finally, you'll enter the Indomitus Era, marked by the opening of the Great Rift, the birth of a new God of Death, and the resurrection of Primarch Roboute Guilliman. As the new Lord Regent's Indomitus Crusade strives to reunify the dying Imperium, a psychic awakening heralds a terrifying era of witches, and Abaddon the Despoiler ravages the galaxy with the aid of the daemonic demigod Vashtorr and his Arks of Augury. The return of Lion El'Jonson, the Emperor's First Primarch, only forestalls total disaster, and with the resurgence of the Leviathan Hive Fleet, the galaxy may be reduced to nothing more than fodder for an alien swarm.

The Factions of Warhammer 40,000

Explore each of the factions waging war in Warhammer 40,000, with detailed background information along with tactical descriptions and a miniature showcase of their Patrols. The gathered armies of the Imperium include mighty Space Marine Chapters, the ranks of the Astra Militarum, the fanatical cults of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Adepta Sororitas, and the golden-clad guardians known as the Adeptus Custodes.

The blasphemous Forces of Chaos encompass the ancient Traitor Legions and the more recent Heretic Astartes, as well as Chaos Daemons from beyond the mortal realm. Finally, the insidious Xenos Threat spans from the brutal Orks, the mercenary Votann Leagues and the expansionist T'au Empire, to the ancient branches of the Aeldari and Drukhari, the immortal Necrons, and the ravenous Tyranids and their Genestealer Cults.

Basic Rules of Warhammer 40,000

The Warhammer 40,000 Basic Rules contain everything you need to know to wage glorious battles in the war-torn galaxy of the 41st Millennium. These basic rules are used in games of all sizes and styles and provide a foundation for use with other supplements.

You'll learn the general principles and basic concepts of Warhammer 40,000, the datasheets and attributes used by your miniatures, and the rules that apply to the five phases of the game: the Command phase, the Movement phase, the Shooting phase, the Charge phase, and the Combat phase. You'll also find the stratagems and abilities used by all armies, as well as additional rules for elements such as Strategic Reserves, terrain features, and aircraft.

Finally, there are rules for assembling an army, preparing your miniatures for a game, controlling objectives to claim victory, and a mission, "Only War," to get you playing right away.

The Patrol Mode

The Patrol mode is the ideal starting point for playing Warhammer 40,000. Fast and easy to learn, it uses the Basic Rules to play tactical encounters that can last around an hour, using only the contents of the Patrol boxes. Each of these forces has its own rules, which we offer for online download and in other publications, and provide everything you need to start playing. This section provides an introduction to the Patrol game mode, an explanation of the Battle-Ready painting standard, and six different Patrol missions, each with its own objectives, mission rules, and deployment maps for a wide variety of gaming experiences.

The book concludes with a separate index for the Basic Rules, which acts as a handy reference to use while playing your games.
