One of the fastest cars of all time, surpassed only by a change in the world championship rules.
In 1970 motorsport rules dictated that prototype cars had to be less than 3 liters unless they built more than 25. Porsche stepped up and built 25 prototypes of the 917K with 4.5 to 5 liter engines.
For two seasons, it won race after world championship race including Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. After this, its speed was deemed "too fast" thus driving high-capacity racing cars out of endurance racing. From there he turned his gaze to the United States.
In the 1,000 km of Monza in 1971 it came in second place behind its brother Porsche 917K.
