West Germany developed its Leopard 2 main battle tank after the failure of joint development of MBT-70/KPz 70 tank with the United States. The Leopard 2 first entered service in 1979. It got throught several modifications during production. Leopard 2 is universally recognized as one of the best and most balanced main battle tanks today. It is the primary equipment of 16 countries in the world.
